Doctor in Biology since 2004 (University of León, Spain). Doctoral thesis: "Post-mortem recovery and quality of the spermatozoa obtained from the cauda epididymis of Iberian red deer (Cervus elaphus hispanicus)". PDF (3,6 MB).
I joined the GBR in november of 2005. My research activity is mainly dedicated to the study of the effect of oxidative stress on deer spermatozoa and its remediation. Moreover, I ave been collaborating with Dr. Elsa Cabrita from the CCMAR (Faro, Portugal) since 2005, on the application of CASA and other techniques for the analysis of sperm in teleostei.
Currently, I am collaborating in a conservation project at the Brookfield Zoo (Illinois, USA). I am integrating reproductive parameters (sperm traits) in the outcomes of different captivity breeding programs for wild species.
