In order to transfer our research results to the private sector and to the society. This service includes the hormonal syncronization of the does and artificial insemination using cryopreserved semen.

Evaluation of semen quality (espermiogram)

sperm.jpgWe can conduct a complete spermiogram (seminal evaluation), using our modern lab equipment and advanced techniques. The seminal analysis can be performed on ejaculated semen, post-mortem samples or cryopreserved doses. The spermiogram can include different parameters, such as volume, concentration, motility, morphology, viability and the condition of the genetic material of the spermatozoa.
  • Important: Be aware that a spermiogram, even though it might yield a very complete evaluation of the seminal quality, is not directly related to fertility. A well-done spermiogram can be used to discriminate infertile or subfertile samples, or to suggest strategies in order to increase the fertility of a low-quality sample, but it does not have prognostic power on the fertility of a sample.

Cryopreservation of semen from domestic and wild ruminants

tank.jpgThis service offers the cryopreservation of sperm, obtained by different means (artificial vagina, electroejaculation or post-mortem) from different species of ruminants: domestic (ovine, caprine and bovine) and wild (deer, gazelle and mouflon). With this technique it is possible to store semen from animals of great genetic value for subsequently use with artificial insemination techniques. Besides, it allows to create genetic resource banks (GRB) for preservating germplasm of endangered or highly-valued species.

Artificial insemination and reproductive control in cervids

The benefits are, first, the improvement of the breeding and management, the increase in productivity and the decrease of the risk of infection by sexually transmitted parasites; and, secondly, the reduction of the inbreeding and associated genetic deffects, implying a lower risk of diseases and a better general constitution of the animals.
